Reviving a Medieval Wine Legacy in a UNESCO Town
Kutná Hora Wine Cellars is a family-run winery dedicated to restoring one of Czechia’s oldest wine regions. Viticulture in Kutná Hora dates back to the early twelfth century, when Cistercian monks first established vineyards on these slopes, intertwining cultivation of the vine with early Bohemian history. This legacy continued through royal vineyard ordinances and was part of the town’s landscape long before Kutná Hora became a major medieval mining and cultural centre now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Today the winery operates from historic spaces in the former monastery of St. Voršily, offering tastings in rooms and cellars rich with cultural resonance while carrying forward centuries-old tradition into the present.
A Biodynamic & Natural Philosophy
Kutná Hora’s viticulture is rooted in biodynamic farming (Demeter certified) — the only estate in the Czech Republic holding this prestigious certification — and guided by permaculture principles, lunar cycles and herbal preparations. Lukas avoids chemicals in both vineyard and cellar, prioritising soil regeneration, plant health and spontaneous fermentations to preserve natural energy and purity in the wines.
In the cellar, minimal intervention, gentle handling and respect for natural processes create wines that feel alive, expressive and deeply connected to place.
Terroir at the Core
The vineyards surrounding Kutná Hora benefit from mineral-rich soils and continental conditions, producing wines with distinct minerality, spice and clarity. This unique terroir and the long local history of vine-growing give the wines both authenticity and sense of time.
Heritage. Biodiversity. Terroir. Purity. Natural expression.
